On September 23, 2008 we made the decision to retire Penney from breeding and had her spayed. Penney has given us 3 beautiful litters for a total of 12 puppies. Her very first litter was a natural delivery with complications. We lost 2 of the 5 puppies during the whelping of her first litter. The second litter was an emergency c-section with a water baby and we lost 1 out of 6 with that delivery. Her last litter was also an emergency c-section with difficulty and we saved 4 out of 6. However, the last c-section was very scary because we had a hard time getting Penney and her puppies to come out of the anesthesia. Penney is very dear to us and we decided whelping puppies is just too difficult for Penney and therefore retiring her from breeding was in her best interest. Course retirement really isn't going to be much different for Penney since she will always reside here with us at Cruisin Cavaliers as our loving companion and pet like she has already been before.
