During the Summer of 2009 we provided foster care for a Tri Color Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named "Janie" for Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue. Lucky Star wanted me to keep "Janie" for 3 months in order for Janie to become comfortable and give me a chance to access her individual needs which would help us to locate the best home environment for Janie's needs. Janie was a bit timid at first, but blended in with our other Cavalier King Charles Spaniels within a day or so. Janie was not dominant in any way, so the other Cavaliers accepted her very quickly. Janie was a very quiet girl and at 7 years of age she slept most of the day lounging around the Cavalier Room. Once she learned our doggy door system she would go outside on her to potty if she needed to, so overall she was a very easy and very sweet girl to foster care for.
"Janie" joined our family in May of 2009.
In the above photos Janie is hanging out with a litter of puppies on June 22, 2009. Her mother insticts are still at the top of her priority list and I can tell she must have really enjoyed raising her puppies. I am sure when she had a litter it gave her companionship.
July 15, 2009 is the first time I have seen Janie show an interest in playing...it is fun to watch her open up as time goes by.

Janie has been adopted and now lives just 20 minutes away. She has been renamed "Maggie".
I enjoyed my first experience as a foster mom and I hope you will consider opening your home up to a rescue Cavalier or if you have the ability to be a foster mom the demand for good foster care is desperately needed by all rescue groups across the country.
