Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Memories

Take a trip down our memorylane with some Cavaliers that have touched our hearts in previous years.

"Okie"

Gender: Male
Color: Tri Color

Okie was adopted at 12 weeks of age and lived with us through his first 2 years. Many Cavalier breeders starting out make the mistake of adopting several Cavaliers when they really need to go slow and let time teach them the way. I wanted to have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in each color, which is also a common mistake made. I did do one stud breeding with Okie once he acquired all his health certifications with OFA. Since he wasn't quite 2 years of age at the time of the stud breeding we had a preliminary hip evaluation done on him and he tested out with fair hips. Here is a photo of the little girl I received in exchange for the stud breeding:

Meet Sophie

Sophie resides in Texas.

I eventually learned that there were stud dogs out there that I preferred to use over several of the male hopefuls I had adopted early on. While, there really wasn't anything wrong with my males as far as health or temperament, the more knowledge I collected the more I wanted to excel with my breeding attempts and began finding the best stud dog to compliment each breeding to its fullest potential possible. Therefore, at 2 yrs of age I made the decision to get Okie neutered and with the help of a friend found a wonderful home for him in Texas where he is now the center of attention in a very loving home.

Crystalridges Jeffri Rackler
"Jeffri"

Gender: Male
Color: Black and Tan

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Jeffri's situation was very similar to Okie's as well. However, Jeffri did do some showing in the conformation ring and is AKC pointed. He is a half sibling to our Star on his sire's side and a half sibling to our Cruiser on his dam's side. Jeffri has also passed all of his health certifications and is CHIC certified with OFA. For a brief period of time Jeffri was co-owned with Judy DuRoss of Canyoncrest Cavaliers in Argyle, Texas where he sired two lovely litters with Judy. I also received the following puppy from Judy since I was co-owner of Jeffri at the time she used him at stud:

Meet Canyoncrest Diva

Diva lived with us here at Cruisin Cavalier for about 3 weeks and then I decided to place her back with Judy, her breeder. I knew I had several whole color litters planned this year and Diva was acutally the only girl in both litters that Judy had with Jeffri. I was entitled to first pick so Judy sadly had to hand Diva over to me when she was old enough to be placed. I debated long and hard, but realized how attached she had gotten to Diva and knew placing her back with Judy would be the right thing to do.

Jeffri returned here to Cruisin Cavaliers for about a month before I found his new home here in Oklahoma. Jeffri is now a very spoiled young man living with a ruby female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Gracie and his new owner. They enjoy lots of social gatherings together where Jeffri and Gracie are always the center of attention.

Rackler's Southern Debutante
"Ellie Mae "

Gender: Female
Color: Black & Tan

Ellie Mae was our first born offspring. Her parents are "Cruiser" and "Fancy". Ellie Mae is 4 months old here in this adorable bubble photo. Ellie Mae began showing in the conformation ring at 6 months of age, but after several showings we soon realized that showing was not something she enjoyed very much.

When Ellie Mae turned a year old we began her health certifications with OFA and she passed her heart, eye, and patella clearances, but needed to be 2 yrs of age before we could test her hips. I received an inquiry from a retired physician and his wife that owned a summer home in the mountains of South Carolina and a winter home in Florida. They already had an adorable 22 month old neutered Tri Color Cavalier and really wanted a black & tan female Cavalier as a second companion dog. After long consideration I decided to let them adopt Ellie Mae.

Periodically, I get a progress report on Ellie Mae and she is doing wonderful and they are so happy to have her.

This picture here was taken the day before she flew out to Florida. I think about her often, but knowing she is happy and very loved is very comforting.
